The dramatic conclusion of the second age paved the way to a calmer third age, focused on rebuilding. The cost of victory was great, as among countless heroes, Ithil too had given his life in the final battle. Elanthir had vanished without a trace, presumed to have sacrificed himself to destroy the heart of darkness. Their sacrifice would be honored, as the Ithilien empire was founded. The title Elanthir would be given to the greatest mage of any given time, who would reside in what used to be the heroic archmages tower.
Peace settled between the nations for centuries to come, as they rebuilt and recovered. Where nations had fallen, new ones soon took a hold, with the borders as we know them today eventually being established.
The stories of the second age soon became lore, then tales and eventually legends. As the milennia passed in this age of peace and flourishing, in which war was rare and often small in scale, the idea of the troubles of previous times was no more than distant memory.
Though the world would eventually find that not all was quite as well as had been assumed. Vugzurad had been left largely untouched. The earth was barren, the rivers ran with lava and the air made all who breathed it for too long deathly sick. Due to that, it had not been colonized by any of the nations. It was this, combined with the largely harmonic times, that allowed something to once more take hold on the dark continent, preparing to reveal itself to Deoria once more...
